Ideas for cycling trips near Kropa

Some ideas to help you decide. We suggest some of the most beautiful ones.
For those who like cycling, walking, enjoying the natural beauty and breathtaking views.

Road bike

We start the cycling tour in front of the house in Kropa and go through the nearby village of Bodešče to the cycling route towards Lesce. Along the way we meet a small hotel where the film 'Pr' Hostarju 'was shot. Through Lesce we come to Radovljica, where we can see the old part of town, where every year one of the largest chocolate fairs in the world takes place. We ascend slightly through Begunje and 'under the mountains' we drive through three villages with an exceptional view of the entire valley to Ljubljana. We descend to Tržič, from where we sail to Kranj, the capital of Gorenjska. Here, too, we can take a short drive through the old part of the city, then cross the Sava River and drive past the ski jumps, where quite a few Slovenian champions made their first jumps. after an extremely beautiful valley, we drive through Besnica and other villages after a short ascent to Jamnik, a place where a church stands on an exceptional vantage point. Extraordinary energy radiates here, it can be seen far and wide in three valleys. From there, the descent leads us to Kropa, our blacksmith center, where we can see the old part of the place while driving. We still have about 20 km of a nice calm drive to Lancovo below Radovljica, where after a short macadam section (2 km) we reach the bridge over the river Sava. A short ascent (1 km) takes us to the village of Bodešče, from where we drive back to our hotel. The tour is quite varied, it has several shorter ascents. The ascent to Jamnik is the only one that is more demanding in the last part, due to the work with a large slope (up to 18%), which is short (500m). The tour for the average cyclist lasts about 3-3.5 hours.
A shorter trip from Kropa to Radovljica will take us from Kropa all the way to Brezovica, along the Kroparica river. As we drive past Zgornja Dobrava, the view of the beautifully shaped peaks of Ojstra Peč, Drnovec and Vreča looms up to our left and right. The trail leads you on through Spodnja Lipnica and Zgornja Lipnica, where you can also stop and see Lipnica Castle. We then descend to the village of Lancovo, through which the magnificent Sava River winds, offering plenty of opportunities to rest and enjoy the beautiful views of the surrounding countryside before heading to the town of Radovljica. After crossing the bridge, turn right at the next turning towards the old town of Radovljica. In the meantime, you cross the railway line and there is a slightly challenging hill into town, where you can enjoy a refreshing drink and try the famous Radol`ška čokolada /Chocholate of Radovljica.

Mountain bike

From Kropa, we descend through the village of Brezovica, past Spodnja and Zgornja Lipnica, where you turn left at the crossroads and start climbing along the macadam road to the hut on the Zgoška ravan plateau. The climb is more than 8 km long. In the hut, you can have a rest and taste local and homemade dishes. Then we continue downhill to the turn-off for Talež, which is on the left-hand side, and after a good kilometer of driving along a forest road, we reach a hunters' cottage. Here you can also enjoy a typical Gorenjska dish before continuing on your way. Talež offers one of the most beautiful views of the Karavanke Mountains, the Julian Mountains, and Lake Bled and its surroundings. We can return to the hostel along the same route or take the adrenaline rush down into the valley and climb back up the macadam road to Talež, then return to Kropa along the more preserved road past Lipnica and Kamna Gorica. The route is demanding, so physical condition is recommended.

Gravel

From Kropa, descend to Spodnje Lipnice, where you turn left and climb up to the Jelovica plateau, to the Goška Plateau. Keep right and continue through the forests to the village of Nemški Rovt. Here, descend to Bohinjska Bistrica and continue along the cycle path to the village Ribčev laz. When you cross the bridge, you will have a beautiful view of Lake Bohinj. The trail leads to Stara Fužina, where you turn left and start climbing up the Pokljuka plateau to Uskovnica. From here, a picturesque path leads to the villages of Koprivnik and Gorjuše, where at the end of the village you turn right and start descending to Bohinjska Bílá. Pass through the village, but at the end turn left and climb a small hill from where the path leads to the Zaka (Lake Bled). Go anti-clockwise along the lake to Mlino, through the villages of Selo and Ribno, and from there descend towards the Sava River. Continue to Lancovo, then climb and return to the starting point in Kropa. A tour that requires better physical fitness and good technical knowledge of cycling.

Then you will go down the hill past the railway station to the village of Lancovo, cross the bridge where you turn right and start climbing up the forest paths towards the hunting lodge at Talež. Similarly to the path to Jamnik, the path to Vodice or Vodiško planina runs along a ravine at the beginning, which gradually turns into a gentle ascending track. After about 20 minutes of ascent, the path to Vodice turns sharply to the left, and begins to climb more steeply – first across the slope, then it turns straight up (this part of the climb is quite difficult), and when the slope becomes just too steep, you start walking in the switchbacks. At the top of the climb, there is a bench waiting for you to rest, and from here on it is much easier as the path does not climb so steeply. The path leads you to the wide macadam path, which will take you all the way up to Vodiška planina. Here you can extend your trip if you would like to go on to Jamnik – as the view of Jamnik is only a good 200m downhill away. You will easily find your way back to Kropa, just watch carefully where the path descends from the cart track back towards Kropa. The path diverges again in between, your way back to Kropa turns right and from here onwards you will have an easy descent back down into the valley.

The way to the top is easy; you just have to follow the St Peter's Way, which is well marked with signs and signposts with St Peter's Key painted on them. Suitable footwear is advised, as the path is more rooty and quite steep in parts. A little higher (about 10 minutes) is the Sankaška hut (867m), where they offer excellent spoon meals, strudels,… Here, in most of the year, you can enjoy beautiful views of the Bled, Radovljica basin, and at the same time there is also an airstrip for paragliders, so you will surely enjoy such an excursion. The trail is not difficult, except in some parts, and hiking shoes and walking poles are recommended.

Altitude: 839 m
Highest point: 490 m
Lowest point: 440 m
Ascent/descent: 50 m

A shorter, but very pleasant and leisurely trip/walk leads you from the bus station in Radovljica along beautiful footpaths (crossing the main roads only a few times) through the town of Radovljica, then down past Lesce, along a field/grassland trail all the way to Šobec.
